George. -H. Morrison, né en 1948, conjoint de Ellen Johnston, fils de Harold et Margaret, père de Keri et Sloane, est décédé à l'âge de 59 ans.
George H. Morrison, 59, died November 12 at his home after a brief illness. George was born in Toronto, Ontario, on Dec. 24, 1948. He played collegiate hockey at the University of Denver, where he was named to the NCAA West First All-Star Team in 1969 and 1970, and won the national scoring title both years, leading Denver to the NCAA national championship in 1969. He played two years with the St. Louis Blues of the NHL and was named their Rookie of the Year in 1970. In 1972 he was drafted by the World Hockey Association's Minnesota Fighting Saints and then went to the Calgary Cowboys in 1974. A two-time WHA All-Star, his stick is in the Hockey Hall of Fame for scoring three goals in a record of 43 seconds. In recent years he helped bring the Nationwide Golf Tour event to Calgary, Alberta, and was president of Overtime Sports Management Group, which concentrated on sports related properties. He is survived by two daughters, Sloane Junge and Keri Lauxman, both of Kansas City; his parents, Harold and Margaret Morrison of Fort Erie, Ontario; a brother, Robert Morrison of Toronto, Ontario; and a sister, Cathy Gaglia, also from Toronto. George also leaves behind his beloved partner in life, Ellen Johnston, of Schenectady. George's exuberance and larger-than-life personality made him a much loved figure wherever he went, all across Canada and the U.S. His tales of life in the NHL, golfing exploits, horse racing stories and fishing trips were legendary. He will be remembered for living life to the fullest and bringing much joy and laughter to everyone around him. At the time of his death, George was serving as the volunteer assistant coach of the women's ice hockey team at Union College. His tenure with the Union program, and with the men's ice hockey team at RPI in 2003-04, were among the happiest and most fulfilling times in his life. A service of remembrance will be held November 15 at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel on the Union College campus. George requested that, in lieu of flowers, friends make donations in his memory to "Union College Women's Hockey," care of Head Coach Claudia Asano, Union College, Achilles Center, 807 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308.
