GUTHRIE -George Samuel passed away peacefully March 3rd, 2007 at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga, Ontario in his 91st year. Beloved husband for 63 years of Dorothy Guthrie (nee Wright). Pre-deceased by his parents and his sister Elsie Buchanan, and survived by his brother Les (Marge) Guthrie, of North Battleford, SK. Loving father of Gary (Sherril) Guthrie of Abbotsford, BC, Randall (Chriss) Guthrie of Mississauga, Lynn Wilson of Hamilton, and Janet (Ken) Laverty of Mississauga. Proud and cherished Pappy of Avery and Jordan Guthrie, Lindsay, Clayton and Robyn Wilson, and Wesley, Braeden and Kalen Laverty, and many special "puppy dogs." George was born December 25th 1916, on Sec. 31, Tp.16, Rge. 14, W 3rd, Saskatchewan (northwest of Swift Current) and lived in Saskatoon, SK, Regina, SK, Thunder Bay, ON, Winnipeg, MB, PointeClaire, QC, and Mississauga, ON. He was proud to have delivered the Saskatoon Star Phoenix to future Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, and to have served overseas as a Staff Sergeant with the Regina Rifles and Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers from 1942-1946. He worked for many years for the Gutta Percha Rubber Company, followed by Rockwell International, and especially enjoyed his consulting work with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada in northern Ontario. George and Dorothy traveled together throughout Canada and the United States, as well as to Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Athey for his compassionate and attentive care.
