McGovern M.D., George Richard Rochester, NY: Died unexpectedly on January 28, 2008 in Honolulu where he was spending the winter. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Edward (Jessica Faul); his daughter, Elizabeth; brother, Robert (Ella Jo); sister-in-law, Mary Ann and many nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his father, Edward William, mother, Lucile Mening and older brother, Edward William III. George was a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and of the University of Michigan. He received his surgical training at the University of Rochester. He was in the Private Practice of Surgery in Rochester for many years as well as being Medical Director at Delco (Later ITT). He was a member of many professional organizations including among others The American College of Surgeons and the Occupational Medical Society. Upon his retirement he pursued his interests in music, art, history, travel and education. Living in Hawaii for 6 years he was a docent at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and at the time of his death was a docent at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. He sang in church choirs in both Honolulu and Rochester and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in both cities. A Memorial Mass will be said at Blessed Sacrament Church (Rochester) on Saturday, February 2, at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to an educational or cultural institution of your choice.
