Avis de décès de George Morrison

MORRISON _ George Edward June 12, 1925 - June 18, 2002 MORRISON _ Colleen Rae (Reddin) August 10, 1925 - June 18, 2002 It is with great sadness that we announce the deaths of our remarkable and special parents George and Colleen, who died tragically in their home in Summerland, B.C. on June 18, 2002. Colleen and George were high-school sweethearts after having met in junior-high school and they were married in 1951. They were true partners in life and the best of friends. They will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by their daughters Marjorie Morrison Ross (Jim), Susan Severide (Geoff), and Kate Morrison; their grandchildren Andrea, Megan and Jennifer Severide, Cameron and Heather Ross; George's brother Doug (Carolyn), his many relatives, medical colleagues and patients already feel the great loss; Colleen's sisters Mary Ann (Peter) and Joan, many nieces and nephews and other relatives who cherished her will miss her deeply. Colleen was pre-deceased by her brother David (Joyce). They impacted the lives of many dear friends and the communities in which they lived, worked and volunteered with cheerful, generous and caring spirits. George was born and educated in Vancouver, B.C. He attended Kerrisdale Elementary, Point Grey Junior and Magee High Schools. At Magee, George trained the girl's Air Cadets and during World War II he was the Wing Commander of his Air Force division. He obtained a MA in neurochemistry, then he graduated from UBC medical school in 1956. As a highly respected family physician, he dedicated much of his life to the practice of medicine. He had fond memories and many stories of a summer working as a physician out of Bella Bella in coastal B.C. George had a thriving family practice in Vancouver for 11 years and moved to Summerland in 1969 to pursue a more rural family practice until his retirement in 1992. He extended this passion by keeping his hand in medicine, assisting in surgeries until the fall of 2001. He was a founding medical advisor for the Summerland RECOPE rehabilitation recreation program. He was a sensitive, compassionate and highly capable physician, always willing to listen and spend time with his patients, often going beyond the call of duty. Together with Colleen, be shared a love of the outdoors, working on the land with his family and tending his orchard for 31 years. He was widely read, loved learning and creatively worked with his hands. George will be remembered for his deep love and affection for his family, loyalty to his friends, his moral integrity, strength of character, sensitivity, independent spirit, and thoughtful intelligence. Colleen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and moved to Vancouver as a young girl where she was raised and educated, attending Quilchena Elementary, Point Grey Junior and Magee High Schools (graduating in 1944). She attended Vancouver Provincial Normal School where she obtained her teaching credentials and taught in Burns Lake, B.C. from 1945-1947. She graduated from UBC in 1951 with a Home Economics degree and continued teaching in Vancouver until the birth of her first daughter. She then devoted herself to raising her family, moving from Vancouver to Summerland in 1969. Colleen maintained her strong belief and interest in education through her dedicated involvement with the Summerland School Board and Okanagan College Board, serving as chairperson. Her subsequent volunteer efforts included serving on the board of the Art Gallery or the South Okanagan, on the publicity committee for the local B.C. Heart & Stroke Foundation and with the Penticton chapter of the University Women's Club. Colleen loved cooking, gardening, painting and all forms of artistic expression. She greatly enjoyed meeting people and sharing of herself. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She will be remembered for her spirituality, her deep love, loyalty and belief in her family. She showed great kindness and compassion for others, reverence for life, amazing warmth and generosity and an enduring ability to see the goodness in people. Nana and Grandpa delighted in spending time with their grandchildren and always showed great interest, love and pride in who they are and in the uniqueness of each child. Both of them shared many interests together _ orcharding, gardening, hiking, scuba diving, a love of the ocean, music, art, woodworking and painting. Travelling here and abroad brought adventure and fueled their love of cultures, nature and photography. Mom and Dad touched the lives of so many people each in their own unique ways and also through their love and respect for each other. We are honored to have been touched by their spirits, their loving kindness and their graciousness. We are blessed to have known them as long as we have and they will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service celebrating Colleen and George's lives will be held Saturday, June 29th, 2002 at 10 A.M. at the Summerland Baptist Church at 10318 Elliott Street. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of both Colleen and George to the Heart & Stoke Foundation, the David Suzuki Foundation or the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Summerland Funeral Home Rosedale Chapel, (250) 494-7752.
