MORRISON _ George R. George R. Morrison passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the age of 81, at the Beverly Care Center Midnapore, his home for the last two years. The Family will be forever grateful to the loving staff on "Shawnessy" wing for their care of George. A special praise for his care giver, Beryl Glass, whose patience and kindness was a wonderful help, for all the family as well. George was born in Calgary in 1926, a true Calgarian and lived as a loyal supporter of his city, home and his country. He was always active in sports in high school, and in the family years coached his son Scott's baseball team, the Elbow Park Tigers, and led them to the trophy. He was a keen supporter of both the Flames and the Stampeders. George and his partner Bill Tait enjoyed a great relationship in the insurance business of "Morrison & Tait" for over twenty years. In the community he was president of the Insurance Agent's Association of Alberta and later President of the Downtown Rotary Club. He served as Sunday School Superintendent at the Knox United Church, and went on to be an elder and chairman of the Board of Stewards. George was predeceased by his parents Beth and Kenneth Morrison. Leaving to mourn him is his wife of fifty-eight years, Dorothy, and their five children: Ann (George) Palmer, Scott (Kandice) Morrison, Nancy (Douglas) Colborne, Wendy Morrison (Ron Halliday) and Joe (Merric) Morrison. Also surviving, and the lights of his life, are his eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Krista) Moore, Kristie Moore, Lindsay Morrison and Keltie Morrison, Stephen (Whitney) Colborne, Tom Colborne and Gregg Colborne, Danielle Morrison and Nicole Morrison, Forbes Morrison, and Malaya Morrison born in Costa Rica, and his first great-grandchild Benson Moore. Also surviving are his sister Flora and her husband Ted Allison, and sister-in-law Ann and her husband Bill Dalgleish. Private Memorial Services will be held for George at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on the ripened grain, I am the gentle Autumn's rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there, I did not die. Condolences may be forwarded by visiting www.leydens.com . Arrangements entrusted to LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME, RECEPTION and CREMATION CENTRE, 304 - 18 Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2S 0C3. Telephone: 403-228-4422.
