George L. Davis (Red), 81, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008 at Hospice in Port Orange. Red was born in Meadville, PA on August 26, 1927. He was a Seaman Second Class for the Navy and was honorably discharged on July 22, 1946. He then went on to serve as a Battalion Fire Chief for over 20 years in Meadville. Red then retired to Florida in 1966. He was an active life member of the VFW Post 2006 in Meadville, Masons, Crawford Lodge No. 234, Meadville, Elks Lodge No. 2723, Port Orange, American Legion Post 0017, New Smyrna Beach. He is survived by one son, Jack Davis, of Virginia Beach, Va; two daughters, Christine Maloney and Donna Ganley, both of Meadville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Tina, of Meadville; also Veronica Gardner, his significant other, of New Smyrna Beach. There will be a Veteran's memorial on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 10 am at the Veteran's Park in Edgewater with a luncheon to follow at New Smyrna Yacht Club. Donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, in Port Orange.
