U.S. Postal ServiceNALCREST -- Mr. George William Jackson died of cancer Sunday (Jan. 29, 2006) at Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburnale. He was 84.He was born June 6, 1921, in Mineola, N.Y., and moved to Nalcrest three years ago from Mineola. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Mineola for 33 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales.Mr. Jackson is survived by his sons, David Jackson, Urbana, Ill., and Donald Jackson, Carle Place, N.Y.; daughter Donna Simpson, Glen Cove, N.Y.; brothers, John Jackson and Ernest Jackson, both of Florida; sister Helen Plonus, New York; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
