LANNING, GEORGE E., of Louisville, passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Nazareth Home. Mr. Lanning served in the US Navy during World War II on a sub-chaser and was part of the D-Day invasion. He was a founding owner of Jellico Chemical Company, Shively Wood Products, and Lanning Chemical Company. He was a former member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a current member of Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Mayer Lanning; his parents, Everett and Florence Lanning; and ten brothers and sisters. George provided well for his children and instilled in them his strength, integrity and zest for life. His survivors include his daughters, Sharon Hildenbrand (Tony), Beverly Smith-Embry (Greg), and Carol Walters (Ray); his sons, Patrick (Marla), Michael (Cindy), and Kevin (Jonie). Everyone enjoyed his stories, especially his grandchildren, Lori Andrews (Dave), Chuck Smith (Jennifer), Denise Motta (Edward), Daniel Walters (Charlotte), Marc Hildenbrand (Yolanda), Carrie Edge (Phillip), Adam Walters (Lisa), Erik Hildenbrand, Jennifer Lanning, Sean Lanning, Kevin James Lanning, Jr., Heather Rezvanian (Chris), Steven Lanning, Karen Spradling, Katie Lanning, and 12 great grandchildren; and his sister, Martha Bischof. A celebration of George's Life will be 29 p.m., Thursday, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church; 2931 Pindell Avenue, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family is especially appreciative of those at the Nazareth Home who administered to and lovingly cared for our Dad. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Nazareth Home, the Cerebral Palsy School, or Saint Xavier High School.
