CLARKE, George EdwardAugust 13, 1919 – December 7, 2014George was born on a summer day in Bright, Ontario on August 13, 1919. The eldest of three, having two younger sisters, his family would live in Bright, then Kingston New Brunswick, finally settling in Hamilton Ontario. He initially joined the Army during WWII. When he realized that he didn't like the Army, he walked over to the Air Force HQ in Army uniform and volunteered with them. He worked as a photographer and dark room processor in England, responsible for photos taken during the air sorties over Europe. He met his wife Hannah in England. They were married April 28, 1945 and celebrated 69 years of marriage. They have two sons - Michael born January 23, 1947 and Jim born September 27, 1960. Post WWII, George spent 26 years in the Air Force in Photography and another 12 years at Algonquin College in the Audio / Visual Department. From age 65 to age 80 he volunteered several days a week at the Ottawa Rehabilitation Centre, running their audio visual department. Taking photos, working on their newsletter, setting up for movie nights, and anywhere else he was needed. George was very generous with his time and talents, which was much appreciated. He was very well-liked and respected. In July 2013 George became a resident at Valley Stream Manor in Nepean. He was their Resident of the Month for December 2014. George received excellent care at Valley Stream. He was treated with kindness and respect by staff and residents alike. The family is grateful to all. George was a kind man who loved his family, little children and animals. He missed meeting his first Great-Grandchild Oline by 8 days. He is survived by his wife Hannah, son Michael, daughter-in-law Johanna, granddaughter Michelle, grandson David with Dorthe and great-granddaughter Oline, son Jim, niece Linda Hand and family, nephew Bob Hargin and family. Predeceased by his parents George and Melinda, sisters Isabel and Alice. George's favourite time of year was Christmas. We will all remember him with love and a smile. A memorial service will take place at Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel (2500 Baseline Road), on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. For those who may desire to remember George, a donation to a volunteer animal rescue site would be much appreciated.
