PALM HARBOR, Fla. - George A. St. Onge, 81, a Dracut native and former Chelmsford resident who was a veteran of World War II and a retired electrical engineer, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, in Palm Harbor. He was the husband of Pearl B. (Desjardin) St. Onge, and this year, they celebrated the 60th anniversary of their 1943 wedding in Lowell. He was born in Dracut in 1922, a son of the late Joseph A. "Fred" St. Onge and Matilda (Caisse) St. Onge. He graduated from the former Lowell Technical High School. He later received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Indiana Institute of Technology. Prior to retiring to Florida, he had also resided in Colorado.Mr. St. Onge served in the Army during World War II, and was assigned to the Philippines as a radar reconnaissance specialist.Prior to his retirement in 1987, he worked as an electrical engineer at Stone & Webster Inc. He was a member of the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and mountain climbing New Hamsphire and Colorado.Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Joyce and Ralph Safford of Newport News, Va., and Diane and Michael Raymond of Nashua; two sisters, Georgette Marchand, and Laurette "Larry" Marchand, both of Dracut. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Constance Desjardins of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.Mr. St. Onge was the brother of Edmond St. Onge, who was killed in World War II, and was also the brother of the late Gertrude McKeon, Janet Boyle, and Alfred J. "Chipper" St. Onge.
