STATESBORO - Mr. Gary B. "Buddy" Lee, age 59, died Tuesday at his residence following a brief illness. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving two tours during the Vietnam War. Mr. Lee worked in the construction business most of his life and had been employed with McKnight Construction of Augusta as a superintendent for the past six years. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed local history, searching for arrowheads, pottery and collecting other Indian artifacts. Buddy loved the outdoors, feeding the fish and ducks at his home and spending time with his grandson. He was preceded in death by his father, Bennie Lee; his mother, Ovelia Greer; and a son, Gary B. Lee II. Surviving are his wife, Pamela H. Lee of Statesboro; two daughters, Sara Beth Lee and Lydia Lee, both of Statesboro; a grandson, Nathanial Lee-Crowder of Statesboro; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Pat Stewart of Statesboro and Connie and H.P. "Chick" Jones of Statesboro; and his special canine companion, "Jenny". Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Carey Swanson officiating. Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Craig Kennedy, Gregory Futch, Paul Parrish, Jason Pierce, Hubert Clark, William "Red" English and Wayne Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of McKnight Construction.
