Garry Raymond Williams, 88, of Grosvenor's Corners Road, died Sunday, March 1st, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. Ray was born August 23rd, 1920 in the Town of Florida, a son of Robert and Lena (Decker) Williams. He was educated at the Junction Road Schoolhouse and Sharon Springs High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during WWII as a duty soldier. Retiring in 1982 from the Stove Manufacturing in Central Bridge, he had also worked at Rubin & Son Cattle, driving truck and farming, and had also worked for the Harry Sellick Farm on Creek Road, along with several other area farms. He was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Central Bridge Fire Department and life member of the Fire Police Association. He enjoyed round and square dancing, hunting, and cutting and selling firewood. Survivors include his wife, Alice (Schram) Williams, whom he married April 25, 1943; five children, Joanne (George Plath) Shepard of California, Carolyn (James) Mcbain of Middleburgh, James (Mary Lou) Williams of Schoharie, Sandra (Howard) Wayman of Middleburgh, and Donna (Eddie Keller) Gibson of Cobleskill; one brother, Thomas Williams of Central Bridge; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, March 5th, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Central Bridge. Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the church along with a fireman's service at 11:30 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
