GLADYS WAGNER HALL - SCARBOROUGH, MAINE/COLCHESTER/ HOULTON, MAINE - Gladys Wagner Hall passed on Easter Morning, April 8, 2012, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester. Gladys was born on March 11, 1917, to Ernest and Lena Wagner. She attended schools in Portland, Maine, and completed her teaching certificate at Gorham Normal school. She completed her B.A. at Gorham State Teachers College. She loved to relate, that in the early days, she rode the trolley to school. On June 19, 1940, she married the love of her life, Donald D. Hall. After nine and a half years of marriage, including over a three year absence for WWII, Don was killed in a tragic accident, leaving Gladys with three sons and on her own. With her faith and her stoic Maine attitude, she provided for her children and enjoyed a long career teaching at the elementary school level. In spite of her hardships, she was always willing to help others. Gladys was a member of the West Scarborough United Methodist church for many years, serving on many committees, and volunteered her time and talent generously. She never had idle hands, enjoying knitting, crocheting and quilting. After her retirement from teaching, she continued to be an active volunteer in the community. She tutored, volunteered at the Red Cross, and was involved with the order of the Eastern Star. She was active in the Scarborough Historical Society and Scarborough Senior Center. At 89, after the death of her second son, and with her health failing, she moved to Vermont to be near her remaining two sons, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She lived independently for three years, and for the past two years in a nursing home. She is survived by sons, Robert and Gene, and their wives, Judy and Dianne; grandchildren, Teresa and her husband, Jeff, Dawn, Robert and his wife, Renee, Kathi and husband, Tom, Mike and Jeff; along with great-grandchildren, Derek, Jason, Eve, Tyler, Luke, Violet and Lilah. She is also survived by her sister, Ernestine Loura; and her brother John's wife, Rose Wagner. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Donald; her son, David; and her brothers, Edward, John and Nelson and his wife, Irene. Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dennett, Craig & Pate, 365 Main St., Saco, Maine. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., April 11, 2012, at the West Scarborough Methodist Church, Route 1, Scarborough, Maine. Burial will follow at Black Point Cemetery, in Scarborough.
