George Albert Erikson died on August 9, 2002 at Collington Episcopal Life Care Community, Mitchellville, Maryland, from natural causes. Beloved husband of Alice Nest Erikson previously deceased; loving father of George Wm. Erikson (Sue) of Lake Barcroft, VA and Robert W. Erikson (Julia) of Old Town Alexandria, VA; devoted brother of Marjorie Erikson Peters of Spring Valley, NY and devoted brother-in-law of Ruth Luther of Glenside, PA, Doris Nest of New City, NY, Kay Nest of Fort Lee, NJ, and Lillian Nest formerly of West New York, NJ. Also survived by three adult grandchildren, Dana Wray Erikson Ramirez (John) of Millersville, MD, George Wm. Erikson, Jr. (Leah) of Arlington, VA, and Lori Beth Erikson of Chicago, IL, and one great-grandson, Ryan Matthew Ramirez. Mr. Erikson, born in New York City on December 17, 1914 to George Adolf Erikson and Kate Patton Erikson, was married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in West New York, NJ, on June 4, 1939. He and his wife were 50-year residents of New City, NY, including three initial years in nearby Lake Lucille. He retired in New City after 49 years employment with the New York Telephone Company (now "Verizon"). Prior to his relocation to Collington in December, 1992, Mr. Erikson was a volunteer with the New City Fire Engine Company No. 9 (Fireman, President, Trustee, 50-year member); President of the NY Chapter #18 of the American Right of Way Association; President of the Suffern, NY Lions Club; Chief Instructor of the New City Ambulance Corps; and a past participant in local Little League, Boy Scout and bowling league organizations. At Collington, Mr. Erikson had served as Chairman of the Property Committee and Chairman of the Creighton Center Rehabilitation Committee. Visitation, Tuesday, August 13, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Funeral Services, Wednesday, August 14, 11 a.m. to 12 noon, Higgins Funeral Home, 321 South Main Street, New City, NY. Interment, 1 p.m., Brick Church Cemetery, Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, NY.
