MACDONALD, G.S. Pat, Q.C. - passed in his sleep at Northland Pointe, Port Colborne on Sat. August 23rd, 2008. Pat was born in Port Colborne Oct. 28th 1918, the son of G. Smith and Susan Macdonald. He was predeceased (2007) by Dora, his wife of 62 years. Pat was a graduate of Queen's University, and of Osgoode Hall, becoming a Queen's Counsel in 1967. He served overseas (1942-5) during W.W.2 with the Can Loan program to the British Army, and was taken P.O.W. at the Battle of Arnhem in 1944. On the cessation of hostilities he returned home and married Dora Cardwell, and soon started a law practice in Port Colborne. He served on City Council, and became Mayor (1952-56), and then City Solicitor. Pat was a member of the Erie Liberal Association (Fed. & Prov.), the Port Colborne Club, Port Colborne Golf & Country Club, Pinehurst Country Club, & Niagara District Rehabilitation Centre (Shaver Hospital). Pat was also member of Macnab Masonic Lodge (Past Master), of Royal Arch Chapter, Rameses Temple, and Beacon I.O.O.F.. He was also member and a past president of P.C. Red Cross, P.C Chamber of Commerce, P.C. Historical & Marine Museum Board, P.C. Gyro Club, corporate chairman of Ontario's Heart Fund, and treasurer of St. James' Anglican Church. His brother Bill and his family, cousin Karen Nichols and her family, nephew Archdeacon Ken Cardwell & wife Sarah and family, niece Mary Ann & husband Rod Eastman and family, as well as other nieces & nephews survive him. Cremation has occurred with a Memorial Service to be held Wed. Aug. 27, 2:00 p.m. at. St James & St Brendan Anglican Church, 55 Charlotte St., Port Colborne. Interment of cremains will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Donations may be made to St James and St Brendan Anglican Church. Arrangements entrusted to the PORT COLBORNE CHAPEL of the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOMES, 135 Clarence St., Port Colborne Ontario.
