FUHRMAN BETTY LOU FUHRMAN May 8, 1929 June 30, 2014 Betty was born and raised in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago. She was the erstwhile tomboy who learned to repair a bicycle, ride a horse and play baseball and football with the local boys. She met the love of her life Don Fuhrman when she was 12 and married him in 1951. Red or Lulu (her nick names) could wear a floor length satin gown with high heels, full riding habit, or jeans and mountain hiking boots as befitted their 63 years of worldwide travel and adventure together. Betty raised 4 daughters while relocating every few years, for Don s work. She never met a stranger and made friends where ever she went. Betty was an avid cribbage and bridge player, but most enjoyed the great out-of doors with her daughters and grandchildren, from the park down the street to America s treasured National Parks. She was a voracious reader however, her writing style resembled telegrams or a Dr s notes. Betty and Don transitioned from the corporate world in 1977 and purchased a small motel on Clearwater Beach so they could spend their time together. In 1984 they retired to their condo on Sand Key and in 2003 they moved to Ponte Vedra to be near daughters and finally in 2004 to Vicar s Landing. Betty will be remembered for her exuberant friendliness, her practical sense, her uncanny ability to read a situation and act upon it, and her fairness. Betty is survived by her husband Don and their four daughters - Christine (Jerry Smith, Toronto and Atlantic Beach) Carolyn Lane (Washington D.C., formally Jacksonville Beach) Cathryn (Dan Elmaleh, Jacksonville Beach) and Cynthia (Mickey Sanzotta, Fairfax, VA) and seven loving grandchildren. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Betty be made to the Mayo Alzheimer s Disease Research Center.
