"Bill" Strong April 10, 2008 Frederick William "Bill" Strong, 68, of Glendale Heights, IL, and formerly of Auburn, died at his home. Mr. Strong was born in Auburn, the son of Edward Robert and Catherine Mary Walsh Strong. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Mt. McKinley and the USS Arneb. Following his years of service in the U.S. Navy, he earned a B.S. degree from Buffalo State University and later earned an M.B.A. degree from Northwestern University. In 1965 he founded and was president of Accurate Coring, Inc., a diamond drilling corporation based in Chicago, IL. As an industrial leader of diamond drilling, his knowledge and expertise in this field was in demand all over the world, and for many years he served on the board of directors of Concrete Sawing Drilling Association. Mr. Strong was an avid skier, Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast and world traveler. He particularly enjoyed all the special times with his nieces and nephews. Survived by his siblings, Edward Robert Strong of Chicago, IL, Nancy Marie (Fred) Jay of Liverpool, NY, Catherine Mary (Jerry) Sankey of Sennett, NY, and Mary Alice Penna of Syracuse, NY; 14 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and -nephews. Mr. Strong was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Margaret Ann. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. Funeral services will 9:30 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming.
