WILLIAMS Frederick I. Williams, age 84, beloved husband of Laureen McFadden Williams of Stratford, previously of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was the loving father of Maureen Lotzko and her husband, Robert and grandfather to Kaitlynn and Sarah, all of Stratford. He is also remembered by his brother, Kaye Williams and his wife, Barbara of Bridgeport; four brothers-in-law, Robert Koteles of Bridgeport, Jack McCormack of Florida, William McFadden and his wife, Marlee of Florida John McFadden and his wife, Shirley of Fairfield; many nieces, nephews; and close friends, including his "beach" family. Fred was predeceased by his mother, Margaret Keefe Williams Dudas; father, Frederick Williams; stepfather, John Dudas; sister, Noel Koteles; two sisters-in-law, Vivian Williams and Shirley McCormack. Born and raised in Bridgeport, Fred had been a resident of Fairfield for 30 years. He moved to Englewood, Fla. for several years, and returned to his home state three years ago to be closer to his daughter and her family. A proud veteran, he was the youngest Chief Torpedo man in the United States Navy, serving aboard the Aircraft Carrier, USS Ticonderoga during World War II. After the war, Fred continued as an iron worker for local 424. Over the course of his 55 year career, he became the business agent for the Union local 424 and finally the general organizer for the International Bridge, Structural, Ornamental Ironworkers in Washington, DC, until his retirement. He was well recognized and respected for both his fairness and strength by those in his profession. Fred cherished the time he would spend with his family and friends and found special pleasure in being by the shoreline. Many terrific memories of him involve boating, fishing, clamming, or sitting down on Fairfield beach for a summer weekend. He was a Devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Peace Church. Fred also spent much of his life as a member of the Bridgeport YMCA. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY in Our Lady of Peace Church, 10 Ivy Street in the Lordship section of Stratford, with military honors to follow.
