HAMES, Dr. Frederick Arthur Died peacefully, August 11, 2005 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. Born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan July 22, 1919. Survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Alice; daughters Leslie (late Neil Foster) and Danelle (Matthew Law); grandchildren John (Uyen) Robert (Christina) and Michael Foster; Iain and Andrew Law. Predeceased by his sisters Dorothy, Bernice, Helen, Mona and his brother William. Fred and Alice moved to Sidney after Fred retired from his career as professor of metallurgical engineering at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario. Prior to teaching, he served in the Canadian Armed Forces in WWII. In his earlier years in Sidney, he enjoyed gardening and playing euphonium in the Greater Victoria Concert Band. Friends are invited to a reception in Fred's honor at Norgarden, 2300 Henry Ave. Sidney, BC on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Acute Care Medical Unit or the Palliative Care Unit, 2166 Mt.
