Francis M. BarrettScituate Francis M. Barrett, age 79, of Scituate, and former longtime resident of Quincy, Sandwich, Ma. and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. died Thursday, November 15, 2007. Mr. Barrett was born in Salem, Ma. and later moved to Quincy, where he graduated from North Quincy High School. Mr. Barrett was a graduate of Harvard Business School A.M.P., 1964 and served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Barrett went onto begin a successful career in the restaurant business, starting as a management trainee at the Wollaston Beach Howard Johnson Restaurant. Over the next 26 years, Mr. Barrett advanced to Senior Vice President. During that period, Frank was responsible for more than 900 Howard Johnsons and Red Coach Grille Restaurants throughout the United States. During his career, Mr. Barrett also developed the successful Ground Round concept. In 1973, Mr. Barrett left Howard Johnsons and founded the Barrett Restaurant Group, Inc., based in Abington, Ma. Since 1973, the Barrett Restaurant Group has operated over forty different restaurants in the states of Illinois, Kansas, California, and numerous restaurants in the Greater Boston Area. Current restaurants include he Charlie Horse of West Bridgewater and Kingston, The Abington Ale House and Grille, Plymouth Bay Catering and Barrett Catering. Throughout his career, Mr. Barrett received many awards including Hospitality Magazines Hall of Fame in 1971, Quincy Police Assoc. leagues Man of the Year in 1994, and Massachusetts Restaurant Assoc.s Hall of Fame in 1995. Mr. Barrett was a member of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association, the National Restaurant Association, and the South Shore Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Barrett is survived by his four children; F. Michael Barrett of Bridgewater, MA, Richard C. Barrett of Abington, MA., Mary Barrett Costello of Scituate, MA., an Carey B. Allan of Kingston, MA. Mr. Barrett is also survived by his brothers, Arthur Barrett of South Dennis, MA, and Peter Barrett of Lake Forest, CA., and one sister, Mary Mullen of Norwell, MA. Mr. Barrett is also survived by 22 grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary of the Nativity Church, 1 Kent St., Scituate Harbor. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 1 Summer St. (across from St. Anthonys Church), Cohasset. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Barretts memory may be made to the Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Baystate Dr., Braintree, MA 02184 or a charity of ones choice.
