MORETOWN - Francis Edward Raymond, 82, of Fairground Road, passed away in the comfort of his family at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center on Monday evening, Sept. 27, 2010. Born in Weybridge on Jan. 21, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Eva (Bushey) Raymond. On March 11, 1972, he married the former Juanita Mansfield in Waterbury Center. Francis attended schools in Waterbury. As a young man he worked in several granite sheds in Barre, first as a sawyer and then as a lumper. Francis later worked for many years as a steeplejack for Steeple Construction Co. and most recently, he had worked as night janitor and security at the former Holiday Inn, now Best Western in Waterbury, retiring in 2005. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, and jigsaw puzzles. He will be fondly remembered for his devotion and caring for his family, especially his grandchildren. Francis is survived by his wife of 38 years, Juanita Raymond of Moretown; two daughters, Ann May and her companion, Jeff Courchaine of Waterbury, and Anna Shackett and her husband, Steven of Moretown; four grandchildren, Mandy May, Kiley Copeland, Holli Shackett, and Jennifer Shackett; a great-granddaughter, Sophia Hammer; a sister, Doris Mongeur of Waterbury; a brother, Howard Raymond of No. Wolcott; as well as nieces, nephews and extended family. Two brothers, Carl Raymond and Marcel Raymond, and two sisters, Ida Culver and Dorothy Thayer predeceased Francis. Memorial services will be held from the Waterbury American Legion Home, 16 Stowe St., on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. Inurnment will be private in the Waterbury Center Cemetery. The family requests that flowers be omitted; rather memorial gifts would be appreciated to the Waterbury Food Shelf, 57 South Main St., Waterbury VT 05676.
