Frances Allaben Williams passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Born in Aiken, S.C., on May 22, 1913, and brought up with sisters, Sara Allaben and Mary Glenn Allaben Groover, in Millen by mother, Ella Lane Allaben, she made her home in Rocky Ford with her husband of 60 years, Earl Jennings Williams. Educated at Georgia State College for Women, Milledgeville, and Georgia Southern College, Frances was a gifted teacher who instilled a love of nature and respect for science in generations of Screven County students. After retiring, she taught ceramics for 10 years. Frances was an active member of Rocky Ford United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and served as a Sunday School teacher and pianist for many years. She loved her family, the many people who graced her life and the beauty of this earth. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Elaine Williams; her son and daughter-in-law, Earl Jay and Carol Thompson Williams; her grandchildren, Alan Jay Williams and Leslie Carol Williams; and beloved nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, at Rocky Ford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jonine Northrip officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ted Griner. Burial will follow in Scarboro Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dave Christopher, Carl W. Groover III, Spencer Groover, Wesley Groover, Matt Frazier and Larry Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be the Rocky Ford United Methodist Women. Memorial contributions may be made to Rocky Ford United Methodist Church, c/o Larry Lee, 676 Lone Road, Rocky Ford, GA 30455.
