Frances S. Williams, 93, formerly of Nutley, N.J., passed away March 12, 2010, in Lakewood, Colo. No memorial services are currently planned. Frances will be interred next to her husband at Rosedale Cemetery in Orange. Frances was born Frances Louise Smith in New Brunswick, N.J., in 1916. After graduating from Drake Business College in 1935, she went to work with the Guaranty Trust Company of New York. In 1940, she moved to Brookfield Avenue, Nutley, with her parents and brothers, and during World War II they moved to Metuchen. After marrying Gwynne Pierce Williams of Englewood, Colo., in 1946, the couple moved to Nutley to raise a family. Mrs. Williams lived in Nutley for nearly 50 years, actively participating with the Historical Society, Family Service Bureau, schools and Bethany United Presbyterian Church. While her children attended Washington School, she was president of the Mothers Club, a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout leader. Later, she became a secretary for the board of education, from which she retired in the 1980s. After retiring, she served as the secretary for the Nutley Historical Society. She was active at Bethany Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School teacher, bell choir member, deacon and elder. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Gwynne, and brother, Daniel, and is survived by her brother, Henry and her children, Velma Williams-Gates of Somerset, G. Pierce Williams of Brooklyn, Ross Williams and his wife, Janet, of Lakewood, and three grandchildren, Jonathan, Pamela and Jennifer.
