Frances Rees Williams of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away July 26, 2001, at South Georgia Medical Center. Born in Tuscumbia, Ala., to the late Annie H. Sheehan Rees and John Elliot Rees, Mrs. Williams grew up in Sheffield, Ala.She was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College, now University of North Alabama in Florence, Ala., and had taught school in Tuscumbia and Tuskegee, Ala.In 1927, she married Onie Owen Williams, M.D., of Selmer, Tenn., and Sheffield, Ala.She had lived in Phoenix, Ariz., since 1939.Mrs. Williams was a member of the Maricopa County Medical Society Auxiliary and First Presbyterian Church in Phoenix, and the Chief Colbert Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Sheffield.She was preceded in death by her husband, Onie Owen Williams; her daughter-in-law and son, Dorris and James O. Williams, of Valdosta; and her sisters, Annie B. Goble and Alma Harris Marks, both of Sheffield.She is survived by her daughter, Jane Williams, of Valdosta, Ga.; and her grandsons, Thomas Christopher Williams, of Valdosta, Ga., and Michael Burgess Williams, of Central, S.C.A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, at Oakwood Cemetery in Sheffield, Ala., with the Rev. Bill Bedsole officiating. Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta and Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia, Ala., are in charge of arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of North Alabama Foundation, UNA Box 5059, Florence, AL 35632, or the Chief Colbert Chapter of the DAR, 1004 E.
