SMITH Frances M. Smith, age 96, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2007 surrounded by her family. Born in Fairfield to the late William and Ruth Smith, she was a lifelong Fairfield resident. Frances was a talented designer and spent most of her career as a Designer for La Resista Corset Co., a family owned manufacturing company in Bridgeport. She was a woman before her time; with a sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor, known for her interest in politics and love of travel. She was a collector of Smith family memorabilia and was involved with the Fairfield Historical Society. After her retirement, her greatest joy was playing bridge at the Fairfield Senior Center where she often would play a "no trump6 hand. She is survived by her cousin, Robert D. Smith and his wife, Anita Kenney Smith of Stratford, Raymond and Dorothy Smith of Illinois, George and Janet Smith of Sarasota, FL; her cousins, Karen Belta of Westport, Janet Castro of Huntington, LI, Doria Buzzetta of CO, Dianne Law of FL, Paula Ward of CA and Paul Smith of ME. Frances was predeceased by her sister, Helen; and her brother, William; and cousins, Dorothy Kish and Elsey Stevenson. Friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield. Interment will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may greet her family on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
