On Wednesday morning, March 1, 2006, our Heavenly Father looked down and called home Frances Bernice Akins Wilson. Although she will be truly missed as a wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, aunt, cousin and friend, she is now at peace. A Homegoing Celebration Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Mount Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, 710 West Cincinnati Avenue, DeLand, Bishop T. L. Jackson, host pastor. The Rev. Grandville T. Anderson, pastor of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, will officiate. Calling hours are today (Friday) from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, 935 South Adelle Avenue, and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow the service in DeLand Memorial Gardens, with a repast to follow at Chisholm Community Center, 520 South Clara Avenue, DeLand. Frances Bernice Wilson was born to the late Isaac and Susie Akins on April 17, 1941. She was graduate of Euclid High School, DeLand. Frances married Benjamin Wilson Jr. on May 16, 1959, and to this union four children were born. She was a faithful employee of Tyco (formerly Sherwood) for 30 years. Mrs. Wilson was a dedicated member of Mt. Zion AME Church for many years. She loved singing and was a faithful choir member. She also held the office of treasurer and served on various committees throughout her years of membership. Frances will forever be remembered and cherished by her husband, Ben; one daughter, Vicki (Wayne); three sons, Wendell (Lisa), Garry (Kim), and Craig (Dionne); two brothers, Ophelia Akins and Isiah Akins; one sister, Helen Young; 11 grandchildren, Wendell Jr., Tiffany, Nicholas, Shauntavia, Cagney, O'Neysha, Patrick, Andrea, Craig Jr., Kali and Amanda; one great-granddaughter, Jhailyn; goddaughters, Patricia Spatcher and Paulene McRae; and adopted daughter, Iris Parrish; two brothers-in-law, Wilbert Wilson Sr. (Elnora), and Hubert Wilson (Annie); special family, Lorraine Byner, Pearl Harris, Richard Parrish, Israel and Doris Parrish and Bridget Wilson; devoted friend, JoeAnn Thomas and a host of loving family and friends.
