Floyd E. White NEW HARTFORD Floyd E. White, 94, of New Hartford, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at the Abraham House with his family by his side. He was born on October 1, 1920, in Deansboro, a son of the late Clayton and Ethel Lawrence White. He graduated from UFA and Syracuse University, class of 1942, where he was 2nd in his class of Applied Sciences. Floyd married Ellen M. Hanretty on May 1, 1943, in St. Lukes Memorial Church, Utica. He began his working career with American Bridge Co. and later worked for Utica Structural Steel. He retired from New York State Department of Transportation in 1981 after 33 years of service. He also taught engineering at MVCC from 1950-1960. Floyd was a member of the New Hartford Methodist Church. He served as President of the District 2 NYS Association of Highway Engineering and President of the Board of Directors of State Association of Highway Engineers. He was also Past President of the local Barbershop SPEBSQSA. He loved skiing, fishing, camping, tennis, softball, ice skating, hiking, biking and traveling, but what gave him the greatest joy in life was caring for his beloved wife, Ellie. He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen White of New Hartford; children, Carol A. Lewis and her husband, Mark of the Villages, FL, Robert L. White and his wife, Helen of Utica and Susan E. Hockensmith and her husband, Joel of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Sandra Timmoney and her husband, David of Long Island, Kimberly A. Leogrande and her husband, John of Utica, Brian R. White of Utica, Eric R. White and his wife, Stephanie of Whitesboro, Bridget P. Mazolla and her husband, Anthony of Utica, Sarah E. Grinnell and her husband, Matthew of VA, Adam W. Hockensmith of Charlottesville VA, Daniel L. Hockensmith and his wife, AnnaJean of IL; great-grandchildren, Kendric, Kaitlin, Noah, Connor, John, Jr., Bethany and Calab and a special family friend, Margaret McClintock. He was predeceased by his grandson, Timothy Lewis and great grandson, Emmett Leogrande. The family would like to thank all the care givers who have helped with the special care that was given to Floyd over the past few weeks. The funeral will be on Tuesday at 11:00 at the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Interment will be in Deansboro Cemetery in the spring. Calling hours will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the funeral. Friends may consider the Hospice Palliative Care or the Abraham House in memory of Floyd.
