Floyd E. Smithof Owego, N.Y.Floyd E. Smith, 72, of Owego, N.Y., passed away after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y. He was predeceased by his parents, Lawrence and Alice (Beers) Smith; his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Marjorie Smith; brother, Herbert Smith; and brother-in-law, Charles Traver. Floyd is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth (Chancellor) Smith; his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and James Hitchcock, Newark Valley, N.Y.; his son, James Smith, Albany; grandchildren, Carrie and Kelly Hitchcock, Tamara Booser and fiancé, Jason Speer; two great-grandchildren, Mason Booser and Taliah Speer; sisters and brother-in-law, Vivian and Robert Burns, South Carolina, Helen Traver, Owego; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Josephine Smith, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Viva Smith, Owego; and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was born on May 4, 1934, and was a lifelong resident of Owego. He served 14 years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in England, Tripoli, Africa and Germany. Floyd worked for many years as Industrial Cleaner at IBM Owego, and currently worked custodial maintenance for Tioga County. He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Floyd always put his family first in his life, and was always willing to help others any way he could.A Funeral Service will be held at Richards Funeral Home, Rte. 17c West, Owego, on Friday, March 23, 2007, at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Smith, Pastor of the Tioga Center Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Tioga Cemetery, Owego. Friends are invited to call at Richards Funeral Home on Friday from 7:00 p.m. until the time of service. Those wishing may consider a memorial contribution to the charity of their choice in memory of Floyd.
