SMITH, FLORENCE CLARA PETZOLD, 87 Gainesville - Florence Clara Petzold Smith, 87, died peacefully in her sleep in E.T. York Hospice Care Center, Gainesville, FL on May 1, 2007. She was a courageous, remarkable woman who inspired many who knew her. She will not soon be forgotten. Florence was born to Clara Spitteler Petzold and Alfred Petzold on May 13, 1919 in Paterson, NJ, where she spent her early years. Her career was as a banking supervisor in NJ where she lived in Pequannock. In July 1995 she moved to Marion Landing, Ocala where she truly enjoyed her neighbors and the horses nearby. Her survivors include cousins, including Edwin Kartz, Gordon Kartz, Melanie (Bob) Cummins, Dolores (Paul) Nugent, Joan Schlampp among others, and her friends and caregivers for the last 7 1/2 years, the Ryerson Family - Gene, Beverly, Krister, Anders, Britt, and Kjell. Florence lived in Alterra Sterling House for the last six years, appreciating her friends there. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Alterra Sterling House, 4607 NW 53rd Ave., Gainesville, FL. Burial will be in Paterson, NJ at a later date.
