FLORA JONES November 10, 1914 May 13, 2011 It is with sadness the family of Flora Jones announces her passing on Friday May 13, 2011 at Oliver Lodge at the age of 96. Flora is survived by her daughters; Sylvia Rydzik Hills (John) of Buffalo, NY and Pamela Dymek (Chester) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister Helen Matthews; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Reg in 1995; her sister Marjorie Gooding; and brothers Donald and Douglas MacDonald. Flora was born in Ogema, SK in 1914, raised in Rockglen, and graduated from the Toronto Conservatory of Music in 1936. She married Reginald Jones in 1937, and they moved to Saskatoon in 1939 where she was a longterm music teacher and active in the Saskatchewan Registered Music Teachers' Association. An avid supporter of the arts, Flora was a docent at the Mendel Art Gallery until the age of 90. She visited many museums and galleries worldwide, and attended many musical concerts. She volunteered at Sherbrooke Village also until the age of 90. Flora loved music, was an avid reader, and was abreast of world events. She travelled frequently to England and Europe, visiting Russia before the fall of the Iron Curtain. She was particularly proud of her Scottish roots. She enjoyed painting and was immensely curious; making her interested, as well as interesting, about a wide variety of subjects. Flora and her husband enjoyed family trips visiting the UK and Europe ten times, as well as extended trips to Colorado, New Mexico, and New York. Many young friends considered her a surrogate mother and a singular role model for youth, humour and vitality. During her final years, she resided at Luther Riverside Terrace, where she continued to enjoy her friends, family and piano. Flora will be remembered by her many friends, in many countries, for her wit and humour, for her sense of style, her intelligent discourse, her open mindedness and love of life. Donations may be made to the War Amps. Memorial Service details will appear in a future edition of this paper. Arrangements entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME, 244-5577.
