Family-Placed ObituaryRAYMOND H. KOEHNE Boca Raton, FL - Raymond H. Koehne began his journey home to Jesus which began on October 19, 2008. Ray was born on December 11, 1930 as the only son of Henry and Marie Koehne. Ray grew up in Brooklyn, NY, where he graduated from Fort Hamilton High School. In 1948, Ray entered Merrimack College, but he postponed his education to enlist in the U.S. Army in 1951. Ray began his military career as a private, but was soon promoted to sergeant before entering OCS at Fort Benning, GA. He ascended through the ranks rapidly and was commissioned 2nd lieutenant after only one year. Ray considered his promotion as an U.S. Army officer his greatest accomplishment, second only to the decision to propose to his wife, Jean. Their marriage endured and prospered for 57 years. After the Korean War ended, Ray was awarded an honorable discharge. He worked for a year for the Cunard Line, capped by a short stint as a longshoreman to make ends meet. With Jean's support, Ray managed to resume his college education and graduate in 1955. By now, Ray and Jean were the proud parents of three children with plans for many more. After graduating from Merrimack College in 1955, Ray began a long successful career for Proctor and Gamble Company, where he worked for 39 years. He retired in 1994. Ray was a longtime member of the PTA, St. Joseph's Academy, Knights of Columbus in Jupiter, FL, and Willsboro, NY, Meals on Wheels in Jupiter, FL. and Charlton, Charlton Historical Society, The Adirondack Park Association, Legatus of Boca Raton, and most enjoyed his membership in the Jupiter Florida Men's Senior Softball League. Rays large family was the spiritual focus of his life. Ray and Jean had 11 children, who in turn provided many grandchildren. Ray and Jean can embrace 47 loved ones in all. Ray was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, uncle and always a true friend.
