Family-Placed ObituaryDAVID L. JORDAN 1935 -2007 Veteran of Service in the U.S. Navy. Fireman who served on the West Palm Beach Fire Department 1968-1988, and Fire Inspector for Palm Beach County Fire and Rescue 1988-1998. Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend to all -passed away October 25, 2007 at the end of a long struggle with cancer. In death, he rests in the peace that his life exemplified. Scouter, backpacker, canoeist, wonderful human being. David was trustworthy, loyal, and helpful to everyone. He was friendly, courteous, and kind to all, obedient to the laws of God, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. He was physically fit, mentally awake, and morally straight. He will be missed a great deal by his family and his many friends. As a Scouter he was active for many years with Troops 13 and 142 in West Palm Beach. David was an organizing and founding member of the Palm Beach Pack and Paddle Club. David was known to his close friends as the 'Commander' and 'Pond Bird'. He was an accomplished outdoorsman skilled in very lightweight and low impact enjoyment of the outdoors, in that there was no equal. He accomplished things with such simplicity so that he left only footprints and paddle strokes to mark his pathway. His skills were honed to a keen edge. As an environmentalist, he understood the call to protect the natural world as few do because he lived in and for the environment as frequently as he possibly could. He was a master of the trail, the ridge, the stream and the river through knowledge and great appreciation for those resources. While participating in the making of a film on the Loxahatchee River he stated, 'The environmentalist has to persist in fighting battle after battle -for persist they must -because if they should lose only once the resource is gone!' We who remain are left to carry on his legacy. David was preceded in death by his fathers, Harry Jordan in 1940 and Raymond Lindsey in 1988 as well as his son, Matthew in 1987. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Lynn, son, Joshua, grandson, Gabriel, mother, Beulah Lindsey, two sisters, Mary Jane Lockman and Margaret Delo along with many relatives and friends who will miss him greatly. A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in West Palm Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of N.E. Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway -Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
