HORTON, FREDERICK HAROLD 74, grew up in a railroading family in Philadelphia, but all he ever wanted was to be a soldier. He got the minister to attest that he was 18 when he had just turned 17. This was the beginning of his military life until he retired in 1957 as a Lt. Col. He met his wife, Alchee, on a blind date in 1933 and their love affair lasted until her death in 2000. Always a sports enthusiast, Fred played football, baseball and golf in the military, golf becoming his passion that lasted all his life. He is survived by two brothers, Ralph and Robert and one sister Dorothy Weiss. His daughter Joanne Evans and son-in law Willard Evans live in Glenwood. Fred is also survived by four grandchildren, Kathryn Bauer, Greenville, TN; Terri Basset, LaGrange, GA; Hugh Bauer II, Savannah, GA; Patricia Bauer, Greenville, TN. Two great grandchildren Douglas and Erin Bassett of GA. He was predeceased by his grandson Richard Bauer whose two daughters, Pamela and Emiley survive him. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 25th at the Glenwood Presbyterian Church, Glenwood, FL. In lieu of flowers donations are requested be made to the Glenwood Presbyterian Church, Glenwood, FL.
