FRANCES VERNETTE RHODES BROOKSFrances Vernette Rhodes Brooks, a resident of Montgomery, passed away with grace and peace in Montevallo, Alabama, on Sep-tember 6, 2003. Born in Montgom-ery on September 8, 1917, Frances was the second child of Flory Belle Manry Rhodes and Julius Vernard Rhodes, who preceded her in death. Her husband, Bennett Go-ree Brooks, Sr., and older sister, Florence Ellen Rhodes Mills, also preceded her in death.Frances graduated from Sidney La-nier High School in Montgomery in May 1935 and married Goree on the following September 7. She gave birth to four children, Barbara Gail Brooks Freeman of Monteval-lo, Sandra Florence Brooks-Mathers of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Ben-nett Goree (Rusty) Brooks, Jr. of Trussville, and Linda Frances Brooks Sibree of Gulfport, Florida.In addition to her four children, Frances is survived by her younger sister, Joan Elizabeth Rhodes, and Joan's partner, Bobbie Cramer, of Lawndale, California.Frances is also survived by many others who loved her; Sons-in-law, the Reverend Richard Lee (Buddy) Freeman and Alfred Mich'l Mathers; daughter-in-law, Connie Sweatman Brooks; grandchildren, Lisa Freeman Hobbs and her hus-band Steve Hobbs, Wendy Free-man Pope and her husband David Pope, Brooks Lee Freeman and his wife Sheila Gates Freeman, Anna Christine (Christy) Branscomb, Christopher Luke Gilligan, Ashley Lynn Brooks, Madison Mariah Brooks, Amy Trombley Schmidt, Robert (Sundance) Trice, Jr., and Alice Rose Sibree; great-grandchil-dren, Flannery Eston Miles and Frances Olivia Pope, Jackson Lee Freeman, Kasey Melynne Tromb-ley, John Alan Schmidt, Jr., Sadye Frances Curran, Robert Wayne Trice III and Samantha Trice.Frances is also survived by in-laws, Henry Albert and Mary Lynn Brooks and William C. and Sara Brooks Bu-len; and nieces and nephews and their spouses and families, Betty Mills Ward of Rome, Georgia, Turner Clint (Sonny) Mills of Bessemer, Charles Vernard Mills of Prattville, Debbie Mills Cook of Prattville, John J. Brooks of East Harwich, Massa-chusetts, Patricia Brooks Umile of Wakefield, Massachusetts, Kay Rainwater Cowles of LaPine, Erbie Lee Rainwater of Montgomery, Diane Clark Sheilds of Houston, Texas, Tuesday Gail Clark Smith of Anchorage, Alaska and Pam Brooks Daniel of Brewton.Even the miles between us do not seem to separate us. And that's how it was and how it will be. We won't have the new times together to enjoy, but we will have the old times to remember and treasure. We wish you peace and tranquility.White Chapel of Montgomery is ar-ranging a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. September 8, to be fol-lowed by a graveside service in ce-lebration of Frances' life at 11 a.m. in Montgomery's Oakwood Annex.
