Frances L. Smith of Pearl River, NY, school teacher, loving wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully on September 12, 2002 at Nyack Hospital. She was 81. Mrs. Smith worked as an elementary school teacher for Pearl River Schools and St. Margaret's in Pearl River for over 15 years before retiring in 1960. Mrs. Smith was born April 6, 1921 in Whitehall, NY to Claude Stewart and Caroline Moore. She was educated in Whitehall, NY and graduated from Whitehall High in 1938. She earned her Bachelor's degree in education from Castleton College, Castleton, VT in 1942. She also studied towards her Master's degree at Columbia University, New York, NY. Mrs. Smith lived in Pearl River for the past 58 years; before that she lived in Whitehall, NY from 1921 to 1944. Mrs. Smith will be remembered for generosity to others and love of family. She is survived by her husband Lawrence V. Smith, son Dr. Raymond P. and wife Jo Ann of Albany, NY, daughter Kathleen Godfrey and husband Dr. Thomas Godfrey of Los Angeles, CA, son Kevin and wife Sarah of Kansas City, MO, son Michael and wife Patricia of Liverpool, NY and son Daniel of Pearl River and eight grandchildren Jennie and Elizabeth Smith, Brian, Calvin and Samuel Godfrey, Matthew and Lindsay Smith and Sean Smith. She is predeceased by her parents and three brothers Alvin, William and Edward Stewart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 10 am at St. Margaret's R.C. Church, Pearl River. Burial to follow St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting will be held Sunday 3-5 and 7-9 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Pearl River.
