Evelyn Lewis Smith, age 93, died peacefully at her residence Thursday, June 6, 2002, after a brave struggle with cancer.She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Robert and Carolyn Lewis of Huntsville; nieces, Patricia Moss-Rowan of Johnson City, Tenn., and Judy Lewis LeMoine of Atlanta; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of loving friends.She was predeceased by her husband, Cephas Smith.Born in Tennessee, Mrs. Smith moved with her parents to Florence in her teens and graduated from Coffee High School before embarking on a career with Rogers Department Store, where she became a buyer and a department manager for many years.She was active in the BPW, her church (at First United Methodistin a Womens Circle, later at First Presbyterian, most recently in the Silver Belles), and volunteer work, particularly as a poll worker. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and above all, to be with friends and family.To know her was to love her, and she will be greatly missed at Merrill Gardens, by her devoted family and by many others.Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at Greenview Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the chapel, with a private graveside service to follow in Greenview Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. Larry Baskins of First Presbyterian Church will be officiating at the service.Those desiring to do may donate in Evelyns memory to the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library.Remember me with love and not with tears,Smile at the memories and do not grieve.We will meet where there are no fears.I go ahead; I do not really leave.Greenview Funeral Home of Florence is directing
