KENNEDY Evelyn Grace Morey Kennedy, age 94, of Fairfield, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Born in Bridgeport on December 10, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Everett Morey and Edith Morey Ferreone. Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved husband John Patrick Kennedy, her son John "Jack" Michael Kennedy and her brother, Edward Morey. Evelyn was a pioneer, leader and the ultimate advocate in the field of Services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. In 1951, out of her home on Palm Street in Bridgeport, she started a movement for the development of services for the developmentally disabled in the Greater Bridgeport area which later became known as the Kennedy Center. Evelyn was the Founder of the Kennedy Center that now supports 1800 individuals from birth to seniors to become more independent and live fulfilling lives. She was also instrumental in starting what is now the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services. Evelyn's lifetime of tireless devotion, courage and sheer determination to make a better world for individuals with developmental disabilities, not only changed and enhanced countless lives has made a better world for us all. Evelyn was altruistic, unique, vibrant and inspiring , she treasured her family and friends ,was genuine and loyal, she loved like only Evelyn could love and she was truly loved. Evelyn is survived by her loving son Brian Edward Kennedy; her sister Maureen McPartland; and her devoted daughter-in-law, Kathleen Kennedy. Evelyn also leaves to cherish her memory, five grandchildren Deborah, Michael, Patrick, Andrew and Sarah Kennedy; six great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, lifetime friends and her dear Jim-Jim. The family would like to thank the staff at the Carolton Convalescent Home for the care and compassion they provided to Evelyn. Calling Hours will be on Friday, October 8, 2010 from 4 to 8 pm at the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield. Burial will be private. A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor Evelyn's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, in Evelyn's memory donations can be made to Kennedy Center, Inc., 2440 Reservoir Avenue, Trumbull, CT 06611.
