Evelyn-Jane Smith, née en 1920, conjointe de Robert-Lincoln Smith, mère de Kathryn, Susan, Ann et Mich, est décédée le 21 novembre 2007 à l'âge de 87 ans.
Evelyn Jane Smith, 87, died peacefully November 21, 2007, in Pensacola, Fla. after living with COPD for many years. Evelyn was born in Akron, N.Y., and was the eldest of three daughters of Karl and Gertrude Caple. Evelyn graduated from Akron Central High School in 1938 and from Cobleskill (now SUNY) in 1940. In 1942 she married Robert Lincoln Smith. Evelyn was a homemaker until 1966, when, after the death of her husband, she began employment in the Akron Central School System and then the Akron post office. In 1976, she moved to Glen-wood, Fla., where she thrived as postmistress of the Glenwood post office until 1990. After that time, she moved to the Cloisters in DeLand. She developed many cherished friendships during those years. She then moved to Pensacola, Fla., to be near her youngest daughter, Kathryn (Kate). She lived at Pensacola Beach and then at Homestead Village, where she developed significant relationships with other residents and caretakers. She greatly enjoyed spending time at the beach and painting beach and nature scenes with watercolors. Evelyn and Robert had five children: Susan Jane, Ann Arbor, Mich. (married to Sid Boyd), Robert Karl, St. Augustine (married to Diana), Sybil Maud (who predeceased her and was married to Vernie Davis), Kathryn Ann, Pensacola, (married to Joe Lawrence), and Alex Charles, Austin, Texas (married to Kim). She is survived by four children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Trahan Family Funeral Home, Pensacola, is in charge.
