She possessed a tranquility and a calm natural charm and quietness of spirit that was comforting and firm. Yet she was a strong and confident soul with an independent spirit and subtle sense of humor. She was politically active and an ocean sailor who braved high seas but raised no waves of her own. She was an adventurer, a pilot, an employer, an avid traveler, a lover and supporter of the arts, a teacher, a mother, a relentless volunteer, and a generous champion to those less fortunate. She was a hard worker all her life, and in 1980, with her family grown, she and her husband pioneered a second life in Honduras where for 25 years Evelyn's hard work, accomplishments, and selfless generosity continued to improve the lives of all she touched. She is preceded in death by one son and her husband of 56 years, Bill Evans. She is survived by one son, three daughters, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and scores of "family" in two countries whose lives she permanently changed for the better. Memorial services are scheduled for 2 pm, May 10, 2014, at All Faiths Unitarian Church in Fort Myers.
