Avis de décès de Evelyn Davis

DAVIS, EVELYN BRIMOne of God's greatest gifts and faithful servants, Evelyn Brim Davis, passed away on May 2, 2008. At the time of her death she resided at CountrySide Lakes, in Port Orange to be closer to family Evelyn was born on July 4, 1920 in Sasser, Georgia where she began her life-long love affair with her beloved husband of 49 years, Lyman Eugene "Gene" Davis, also born less than six months later in Sasser, Georgia. She was the daughter of William Franklyn Brim and Frances Marion "Fannie Mae" Waller Brim and sister of Franklyn C. Brim. After graduating in 1941 from Valdosta State College with honors, she obtained her post graduate education in teaching at Duke and Northwestern. She was named in "Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges." Recognized as an outstanding and accomplished educator, she taught in both Georgia and Florida.. So significant were her contributions as an educator, to this very day those she taught sing her praises. She continued her career after marrying on June 26, 1949, until she became a fulltime homemaker and mother of her two children, Lyman E. Davis, Jr. and Jan Davis Rosier Her love of teaching and education were vital to her and much emphasis was placed on educational pursuits throughout her life and with her family. With opportunities related to her husband's career, her family lived in Ft. Lauderdale and Jacksonville, Florida; Orchard Park, New York; Darien, Connecticut; and Raleigh, North Carolina; returning to Florida where she and her husband first settled in Longwood and then Gainesville in 1993, to be close to all things Gator. Each new location provided wonderful new learning experiences, quickly became home and added many well-loved friends. Always quick to share a kind word, a sweet smile and a compassionate touch, Evelyn saw the good in people and had a gentle, inspiring way of uplifting them. Wherever they resided, she remained a dedicated contributor to her community and was very active in her church. In keeping with her devout love of God and his Word, she used her God-given talents and taught Sunday School for over sixty years. She served at libraries, philharmonic organizations, was a Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader; she actively served as an officer in University Women's Club, Women's Missionary Union and Garden Club. In addition to her volunteer and leadership roles, she devoted her time to Bible study, reading, traveling and learning. Her love extended well beyond those who were her "own": Her children, Lyman and Jan; her grandchildren Amy Stark and Christopher Davis; her precious great-grandchild, Brooke Nicole Stark; her nieces Mary Beth Erb, Rebecca Hutcheson and their families; and her cousin, Mary Alice Jordan. Her love also embraced these family members as if they were her own: her daughter-in-law, Mary Davis; her son-in-law, Richard Rosier; Amy's husband, Stephen Stark; Richard's daughters and their families, Suzanne, Daryl, Connor and Caroline, and Joyce and Lyndie Goepfert. What a blessing to love her and to have been loved by her! A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 P. M., Thursday, May 8, 2008, in the chapel of Forest Meadows Memorial Park Central, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, with her pastor, Rev. John Fairless, of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville, officiating. She will be buried where she belonged, beside her life long love, at Forest Meadows Central. The family will receive friends, for one hour, beginning at 11:00 A.M., prior to the service, in the cemetery chapel. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, 404 North Main Street, Gainesville, is in charge of all arrangements.FOR FURTHER INFORMATIONWILLIAMS-THOMAS DOWNTOWN (352) 376-7556
