BATH -- Evelyn Anne (Irwin) Smith, 75, of Bunga Road, Swiftwater, died March 30, 2010, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Woodsville, Jan. 16, 1935, to Charles A. and Hazel (Dunkley) Irwin. She grew up in North Haverhill and graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1953. She spent more than 25 years working in the Grafton County Commissioner office, retiring as executive director in 1997. During her retirement, she enjoyed wintering in Florida with her husband. She was very active with Ross Wood Post No. 20 American Legion auxiliary in Woodsville where she and her husband spent many hours helping with the annual turkey dinner, bingo nights and parades. She was a member of North Haverhill United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for several years. When her children were young, she was active in the Bob-O-Link 4H Club, especially the sewing group. She was predeceased by an infant son, Gary Reginald and a baby daughter. Family membes include her husband of 57 years, Reginald B. Smith of Swiftwater; sons Cecil W. Smith of North Haverhill and Joseph M. Smith of Charlestown; daughters Carol L. Aaron of Florida and Regina S. Weeks of New York; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Brooks of Lisbon and Doris Hayton of Illinois; a brother, Charles A. Irwin of Bath; and several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville. A funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Heidi Smith officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Center Haverhill Cemetery, Center Haverhill.
