Dr. Eunice Evelyn Runner Carter, 87, Sarasota, died April 12, 2006. She was born June 4, 1918, in Oxford, Ind., and came to Sarasota in 1980 after retiring as founder, director and professor of the School of Family Practice at Ohio State University of Northeast Ohio. She graduated from Indiana University Medical School in 1945 and in 1947 founded a private practice in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. In 1967, she was a psychiatric resident for two years at Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland. She helped write the first Family Practice Boards for the American Medical Association, establishing family practice as a specialty. She was a longtime member of Vamo United Methodist Church. Survivors include sons Steven R. Carter of Salem, Mass., and John A. of Denver; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Vamo United Methodist Church, 8521 Vamo Road, Sarasota, FL 34231. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL 34238.
