Morrison, Ethel S. SCHENECTADY Ethel S. Morrison, of Kingsway Arms Nursing Home, passed away August 24, 2009, two weeks short of her 96th birthday. She formerly resided in Niskayuna and Albany. Ethel grew up in Ambridge and Pittsburgh, Pa. She earned a B.S. and Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh. She held various research jobs after that. She met and married her husband, Albert Morrison during the second world war. They were married for 44 years until his death in 1986. Ethel worked for many years in atherosclerosis research at Albany Medical College, retiring in 1978. She was a co-author of various atherosclerosis-related studies published over the years. Ethel was active in many social and charitable causes in the area throughout her life. These included civil rights, women's rights and health, social justice, poverty, racial equality, political reform and world peace. Ethel is survived by her sons, Daniel Morrison of Congers, N.Y. and William Morrison of Guilderland, N.Y.; her daughters-in-law, Beverly H. Morrison of Guilderland and Pearl Spiro of Congers; a granddaughter, Meaghan of Guilderland; a brother, Bernard Silverblatt of Boynton Beach; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her brother, Leo Silverblatt. The interment will be private. A memorial service celebrating Ethel's life will be held at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, 405 Washington Ave. at 12:30 on September 13.
