Ethel Ruth "Sister" McGowan Murphy SPARTANBURG, SC-- Mrs. Ethel Ruth "Sister" McGowan Murphy, of 421 Crestview Drive, entered eternal rest Friday morning, August 20, 2010, at the Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Murphy was the widow of Mr. Maurice Murphy, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Mrs. Geneva McWilliams. Mrs. Murphy was a native of Spartanburg County. Mrs. Murphy was retired from Hoechst Celanese after many years of service. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, where she served on the gospel choir and the mass choir. She was the president of the Sisters of Love, she was a member of the Missionary Society, member of ward #5, Sunday School class #26, and she was a member of the Autumn Age Club. Mrs. Murphy was a pollster of District Seven. She was a member of the Diversity Choir of Spartanburg, SC; Mrs. Murphy was a faithful member of her son-in-law's church, Christian Faith Assembly of Spartanburg. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are, two daughters, Mrs. Angelea Jones and her husband, Pastor Joseph Jones of Roebuck, SC; Mrs. Marguerite Edons and her husband, Mr. Donnie Edons of Glen Allen, VA; two sons, Mr. Timothy Murphy and his wife, Mrs. Sarah Murphy of Spartanburg, SC, Mr. Moses Murphy of Spartanburg, SC; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 4:00 PM at the Macedonia Baptist Church. Pastor Dr. M. Keith McDaniel will officiate. Burial will be in the Heritage Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the church at 3:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the home. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
