Ethel Lynn Williams, 94, Springfield, went home to be with her Lord on March 3, 2007, in Primrose Place, where she had been a resident for four years. She was born on July 30, 1912, in Urbana, Missouri the daughter of Perry B. and Gola May (Dillon) Williams, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Williams and Aline Hooper; and one brother, Glen Dee Williams. Ethel was a teacher for forty-nine years. She taught in Tunas, Urbana and Verona, where she later became principal. She returned to Urbana for one year and then taught at Buffalo High School, where she remained for thirty-four years. Ethel was secretary to D.A. Mallory, Superintendent of Schools, in Buffalo, secretary to the Board of Education, and financial secretary to the school district. She retired in 1979 and moved to Springfield, Mo. She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary Life Membership in PTA, Member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past president of Kappa Kappa Iota, member of Springfield Area Retired Teachers and State Member of Retired Teachers Association. She was also a faithful member of the Schweitzer United Methodist Church. Ethel is survived by two nieces, Sue Anderson and Judith Johnston, and husband, Van; one sister-in-law, Beulah Williams; four great nieces, Christina Anderson, Teresa Welly, Jennifer Buttram and Vanessa Johnston; two great great nephews, Taylor and Riley Curran; three great-great nieces, Erica Curran, Sadie and Chloe Buttram; and a host of past students and friends. Ethel loved teaching and her students. She always tried to listen and help them in anyway she could, including buying their books when needed. Many of her students have stayed in touch with her through the years. Ethel was more than a teacher; she was a friend. Funeral services will be Wednesday March 7, 2007 at 10 a.m. in the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mission Ridge Cemetery, Urbana, Mo., under the direction of the Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, of Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be Tuesday March 6, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel.
