MARION | Ethel Littlepage Cooper, of Demopolis and Marion, Alabama, died on July 17, 2014. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Old Spring Hill Methodist Church Cemetery in Marengo County, Alabama. Arrangements are being handled by Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel. Ethel Virginia Littlepage was born on October 15, 1916 to Dr. Thomas Mellon Littlepage and Sadie Keener Littlepage in Mt. Sterling, Alabama, where she lived until entering college in Livingston, Alabama. During World War II, Ethel worked for the Department of the Navy in the Panama Canal Zone. When the war ended, Ethel returned to Demopolis, Alabama, and married her longtime beau, William Benjamin Cooper, on December 15, 1946. Ethel was a proud and loyal lifelong Methodist. Ethel was a devoted wife and mother and a wise businesswoman. She was open-minded, tolerant, and unswervingly kind.She enjoyed traveling extensively with her daughters, spending summers in Highlands, North Carolina, and attending chamber music concerts. Her biggest joy came from being with her three grandsons.Ethel is predeceased by her parents, husband of forty years, sister and six brothers. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Agnes Cooper Robinson (William) of Chestertown, Maryland, and Jenny Cooper Holmes (Charles) of Marion, Alabama; three grandsons: William Holmes (Mary Quitman) of Greensboro, Alabama, Webb Holmes (Marietta) and Cooper Holmes (O'Neal) of Marion, Alabama; along with five great grandchildren, Louise, Lawson, Marietta and Elizabeth Holmes and Mary Coleman Chandler; two brothers, Epp Littlepage of Butler, Alabama, and J.K. Littlepage of Mt. Sterling, Alabama, as well as fourteen nieces and nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.Pallbearers will be William Robinson, Charles Holmes, William Holmes, Webb Holmes and Cooper Holmes.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Spring Hill Methodist Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Jan Baty, 1751 Winsor Drive, Gallion, Alabama 36742.
