Nov. 30, 1899 to Nov. 23, 2002. Ethel Jane Christopher Smith of Greer, 102, died at her home on Nov. 23, 2002. She was predeceased by her husband, Nick Nathaniel Smith. Born in Reidville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee Christopher and Lou Annie Hendrix Christopher. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Virgil Eugene Smith and Joyce Ashmore Smith of Greer. Also surviving are a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Joni Smith Phillips and James Carol Phillips of Woodruff; and two grandsons, Philip E. Smith of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and the Rev. Mark A. Smith and granddaughter-in-law, Freida Garner Smith of Greer. Five great-grandchildren, Bradley James Phillips of Woodruff, Christopher Anthony Smith of Greer, Kerie Phillips Epton of Wellford, Kelly Elizabeth Smith of Greer, and Jay C. Phillips of Woodruff; and one great-great-grandchild, Dylan Thomas Phillips of Woodruff. Also surviving are a sister, Helen Christopher Blyth of Greenville; two brothers, T. D. Christopher of Greer and Fritz Christopher of Charlotte, N.C. She was also preceded in death by six brothers, Wirron, Claude, Bill, Harley, Oren and Max Christopher; and five sisters, Carrie Vaughn, Jessie Cox, Ruth DeYoung, Avis Aiken and Libby Christopher. She was a Christian and a member of the Pelham First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. A celebration of her life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Greer, S.C., by the Rev. Virgil E. Smith and the Rev. Mark A. Smith. Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, before the funeral service. Pallbearers: The Rev. Mark A. Smith, J. Carol Phillips, Bradley J. Phillips, Joshua E. Epton, Christopher A. Smith, Jay C. Phillips.
