Mrs. Ethel Hortense Carlan Chambers, age 83, of Flowery Branch passed away May 10, 2009, at Willow Wood Nursing Center after an extended illness. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, May 14, 2009, at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, North-Riverside Chapel with internment to follow in New Bridge Cemetery. The Rev. Loyd Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, 2009, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Chambers was born in Jackson County and was the daughter of the late Rufus Eastus Carlan and Janie Elizabeth McDonald Carlan. She was of the Baptist faith. Ethel was an accomplished artist. She loved working in her yard, music, life, and her children. Mrs. Chambers was a mother by birth to two daughters. Her first daughter passed away during birth, and a few years later, God blessed her with a beautiful daughter, Lynn, who brought so much love and joy into her life. At the tender age of six, Lynn was called home to be with the Lord and a mother's heart was broken. She had so much love to give and losing her children left such a void in her life that she spent her years reaching out to children who needed her and became to many a loving mother of the heart. There are many in this life that could not have made it without her love and caring spirit. She was reassured by the words that she would again see her daughters one day and how fitting God chose to reunite them again on Mother's Day. What a reunion! Mama Ethel will be missed by all of her children of the heart, but we know one day we will see her again and until then, maybe we too can be mothers of the heart. Mrs. Chambers is preceded in death by her husband of many years, Homer Bud Chambers; her daughters, Baby Chambers and Lynn Chambers; her brother, Buford Carlan; and her sisters, Naomi Grindle and Versie Perego. Mrs. Chambers is survived by her sister-in-law, Minnie Lee Carlan; numerous nieces and nephews; and many children who were touched by her love. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the New Bridge Baptist Church's Meditation Garden, 3120 Cleveland Highway, Gainesville, GA 30506. Memorial Park Funeral Home, North-Riverside Chapel, 989 Riverside Drive, Gainesville, GA 30501 is in charge of arrangements.
