CARTER Esther A. Carter, 87, passed away January 13, 2004. Born in Washington County, GA, she moved to Jacksonville in 1942 from Pensacola. She was a former member of Norwood Baptist Church and was an active charter member of the Shindler Drive Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday school class. Esther was involved in the Albert J. Russell Order of the Eastern Star, past Mother Advisor of the Russell Rainbow Girls, and the Daughters of the Nile. Esther was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker who was the epitome of a true southern lady. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Tom Carter, Sr. and is survived by her son, T.G. Carter, Jr. (wife, Joreta) of Jacksonville; daughter, Betty Braden (husband, Gerry) of Key West; grandchildren, Tommy (wife, Susan) Carter, Lynne (husband, Aidan) Swords, and Jon and Jason Davies; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Catherine, Landis, and Jared; sister-in-law, Lizzie Mae Bailey; former son-in-law, Carl Davies; and numerous nieces and nephews. F uneral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 16th, at Shindler Drive Baptist Church, with Revs. Jay Huddleson and David Stevens officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 729 S. Edgewood Avenue is in charge of arrangements. For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to the building fund at the Shindler Drive Baptist Church, 7100 Shindler Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32222 or to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd.
