Essie Elizabeth Libby NORTH BERWICK, Maine - Essie E. Libby, 91, a longtime resident of North Berwick/Sanford area, died on Feb. 14, 2013, at the Greenwood Center in Sanford. Essie was born on June 28, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Alice (Jacobs) Dorr and attended schools in North Berwick, Maine. Essie was a homemaker while raising two daughters. Once the children were grown, Essie worked as a cook in the dietary department at Goodall Hospital and later at local nursing homes in the area. Later she changed her profession and was employed by Sprague Electric Company in South Sanford, where she retired after 15 years of dedicated service. After her retirement from Sprague, she worked part time in the laundry department at Greenwood Center, and later volunteered with the residents assisting them in their social activities. Essie enjoyed being busy. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family, being very active with the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a skilled knitter and enjoyed knitting for her family. She loved animals and had several cats and dogs throughout the years. She was blessed to have a full and active life. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty Snow and husband David of South Berwick, Maine, and Kathy Wainwright and husband Cary of Rochester; her two grandchildren, Scott Wainwright and wife Marji of New Windsor, Md. and Marc Wainwright and wife Jennifer of Middleton; her great-grandchildren, Veronica and Collin Wainwright of New Windsor, Md. and Samantha and Michael Wainwright of Middletown; her niece, Natalie Wheelock of OOB, Maine, and many more nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Royal Libby, and her two sisters, Dorothy Hussey and Freda Tibbetts. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St. in Alfred, Maine. Family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Committal prayers and burial will be later this spring in Oakdale Cemetery in Sanford.
